It has been argued, with varying degrees of success, that women's wrestling is not what it used to be. It is argued that the WWE simply are not producing stars the way they did in the glorious hey-day of Trish and Lita, when they were just as big a part of the show as the men. It is argued that the Women's Division in WWE simply doesn't have the talent it did when Lita and Trish were on top.

They are, of course, wrong. Particularly as the women's division has the formidable asset of Melina Perez in its midst.

Melina is everything that has ever been good about women's wrestling and is the hottest commodity in the business at the moment. She is incredibly unique with great fluidity and perfect timing, who can slow down or speed up a match whenever the need calls. Her offence is wonderfully unique and assisted by her amazing agility, her grasp of in ring psychology is above some of those who main event in the WWE and she has the ability of being able to sell just about anything in a way that draws the crowd into the match. Who could forget Beth Phoenix kicking her with her own foot and the way she sold that?

Melina has the versitality to play the heroic underdog diva fighting a more powerful opponent, the dominant and vicious diva, the gutsy, never-say-die diva and just about any character she is given. And she can make her opponent look like a million bucks by doing it, from a diva with the raw strength of Beth Phoenix to a rookie, just starting out in the business and looking for a touch of credibility.

But not only is Melina supremely skilled in the ring, she has amazing charisma and ability to connect with the crowd, through the simplest of gestures and through her sparkling charm and personality. Not only is she stunningly beautiful but the face Melina strikes you as a genuinely loveable person, an extention of the real Melina Perez. And she has shown off her acting skills with her heel portrayal of Melina. Who could forget the utter bitchiness and cruelty of Melina firing Mick Foley after he demeaned himself to Vince McMahon for her?

Every smile to the crowd, every gesture and every little thing Melina does is for the crowd, to entertain, to make the crowd feel a certain way. She holds the crowd in the palm of her hand, the way that some can only dream of and also has the skill to hold it together on the mic. What she does on the mic is simplistic but so effective in selling her character. Her passion, energy, commitment and spirit just shine through when she cuts a promo.

If the WWE are serious about their Women's Division, they need to build it around Melina, who is also in possession of the coolest finisher in the WWE today! There are many options for classic feuds that could have just as much impact as Lita and Trish did. There is Katie Lea, who is the antithesis of Melina's face character and oozes with charisma and entertainment value, there is Natalya who could have a dream match with Melina, the underused Jillian Hall who is in desperate need of something and Maryse, who has the best understanding of the business for a rookie that I have ever seen. The options are all there.

Melina once said that she wanted to usher in a new era. It can be done, the possibility is there. WWE have at their disposal the hottest talent in women's wrestling right now. Talented, beautiful, dedicated, determined, unique, charismatic and entertaining are all words that sum up the amazing talent that is Melina Perez. Here's hoping that her talent is realized, nurtured and that we can truly see a brighter day for the much underused women's division.
